No, not medical COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), which affects about 328 million worldwide. I am referring to social COPD (Celebrity Obsessed Psychological Disorder), which affects over half of the 4.48 billion people who use social media today!
It’s disappointing enough to see what news networks have become. They’ve gone from reporting events as they occur, to pushing opinionated political and social agendas and providing “expert” advice in areas where they have no expertise. Now we have Hollywood elites turned politicians, doctors, scientists, and legal experts using their platform to do the same! It’s quite evident that Tinsel Town celebrities have more influence today than the true heroes in our society; The ones who actually serve as good role models for our children and for us. Perhaps this quote below, which I found on Facebook, expresses my sentiment more accurately.

Our thoughts, behaviors, and convictions are a result of the people and situations that have affected (and still affect) our lives. And, even though media has always been a contributing factor, the truth is that television and radio were, at one time, a whole lot more wholesome than they are today. We can safely say that they actually contributed to building good character traits.

But times have changed. Morality and ethics have taken a 180-degree turn. Not towards anything better, or forward, as those who advocate for political correctness, diversity, and misleading social justice would have us believe. But instead, backward to pre-diluvian times when evil had increased on earth to the point that it grieved God to have created man. So much that He decided to wipe out all of humanity, except for 8 souls, in order to start over again. Considering that, and where we are headed morally and spiritually, a second and last cleansing is not only necessary but also imminent.
The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”
Genesis 6:5-8
But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness as you anticipate and hasten the coming of the day of God, when the heavens will be destroyed by fire and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with God’s promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
2 Peter 3:10-13
Until that day, while people continue to look up to celebrities as their source of inspiration, guidance, and hope, Christians are reminded that not only are they mortals, but the vast majority of them are morally corrupt, hypocritical, and some even demonically influenced. So instead, we are to look up to the heavens which declare the awesomeness of our faithful and Almighty God. The God who inspires us to live holy (separated) every day for His glory. We follow HIS precepts as prescribed in the Holy Scriptures (the Bible), which is the only true moral compass for our lives. And, we keep our eyes fixed on Calvary’s cross which testifies to the power of a resurrected Savior who grants us true hope for this life and the one to come!

We need to remember that celebrities can only offer advice and opinions based on a worldview. Whereas, God offers divine counsel which stems from His unconditional love, mercy, and grace for us. If those who are obsessed with showbiz and celebrities would instead shift their passion to seeking Him, they would realize that doing so brings greater joy, peace, and overall fulfillment in life.
I asked my daughter what were some or perhaps the most common consequence(s) of being obsessed with celebrity lives today and she answered, “That’s easy. The most common one, that I have witnessed myself, is that people lose themselves. They focus so much on the lives of others that they forget who they are in trying to imitate them, whether consciously or unconsciously.” Wow! If that doesn’t sum up social COPD I don’t know what does. I pray that as you scroll through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, or any other social media platform, your main focus is set and remains on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. If you do, you will be blessed with OCCP (Overwhelming Christ-Centered Peace).

Thank God for OCCP (Overwhelming Christ-Centered Peace)! Wonderful post! I love you.
