Chances are you recognize some, if not all, of the logos above. Part of a company’s success can be measured by how well its logo is recognized nationally and internationally.

Logos are everywhere. You can spot them in the skies, on the streets, in stores, on television, and at events. It is almost impossible to avoid them. Logos speak for themselves. They non-verbally convey the reliability and quality of the product or service they represent. Be honest, are you among those who feel a little aristocratic when you consume, wear, or drive something with a very well-known logo, especially if it’s associated with prestige?

As defined above, logos are assigned to products and services. They are designed so that they can be easily recognized by anyone, especially impulsive consumers. Likewise, a true follower of Christ has been given a unique identifier, a spiritual logo if you will, that allows the world to easily recognize the genuineness of his/her faith. A faith that should set them apart from those who are so-called Christians/Children of God but who do not live as such. This identifier is not an actual design. It is not an earthly concept like a cross, fish, or any other symbol. It is actually the Holy Spirt of God. It is God himself working in and through them so they can testify of His love, mercy, and grace. Think of it as being “sealed” with God’s logo!

“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”

“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.”

Ephesians 1:13-14 ESV

The ease with which the world can identify a true Christian depends on the genuineness of their relationship with Christ, which is evident (in speech and conduct) when one has given full control of their life to God’s Holy Spirit. If people have trouble recognizing you and I as followers of Christ, then you can say that we are nothing more than no-brand Believers or that our spiritual logo is not the real thing (counterfeit). In other words, the world needs to see, hear, and even experience something from us that declares that we are truly children of the Most High God. It’s not just our verbal confession that proves our faith, but the works (lifestyle) that accompany it.

A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”

John 13:34-35

“So too, faith by itself, if it does not result in action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.”

Here is a portion of Scripture that describes the spiritual logo we should all be known by.

“Be imitators of God, therefore, as beloved children, and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant sacrificial offering to God. But among you, as is proper among the saints, there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or crude joking, which are out of character, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure, or greedy person (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth. Test and prove what pleases the Lord. Have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”

Ephesians 5:1-11

Logos are indeed powerful. They become so ingrained in our minds that we can easily associate them with things we like, love, or even abhor. As Christians, we should be representing God and His kingdom. This means that our spiritual logo should have the same power, if not greater, than the earthly images that cause people to easily recognize popular brands. Can those we come in contact with regularly, infrequently, or even for the first time recognize the seal of God upon us? Can they see Christ in our character? If so, that shouldn’t give us a sense of superiority. On the contrary, it should cause us to give all glory to God by declaring that there truly is transforming power in the Gospel. And, it should create in us a heart that is constantly grateful for the privilege of representing the Lord of all creation! However, if people have a hard time associating us with a holy God then perhaps it’s because we are not taking Paul’s advice seriously enough.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 12:2 NLT

We need to stop walking around with a fake logo (religiousness). We need to get right with our heavenly Father, obey His Word, and make sure that it is His Holy Spirit (the real thing!) who is living in and through us and not some religious notion of self-righteousness.

I pray daily that my life reflects God’s logo (His Holy Spirit) and not a cheap version of it. I pray the same for you.
